July 1986 the 1st 92nd Artillery was inactivated, except Charlie Battery, which was redesignated as Battery A, 92nd Field Artillery Regiment under the United States Army Regimental System (the unit was change from 8" Guns to MLRS)

NOTE: December 1989, in a Special Ceremony at Fort Hood, Texas. Mr. Charles R. Gall founder of the 92nd Artillery Association (HHB Survey Section 1/92 Vietnam 1969-1971) was GRANTED and ASSIGNED the DISTINCTION of DISTINGUISHED MEMBER of the 92n FIELD ARTILLERY REGIMENT
